Activities

The hall is used by all the Village clubs and also hosts a variety of courses open to all including:

Football Club

Records show that 'scratch' football teams played at English Bicknor and Hillersland in the 1920s and 1930s and in 1953 a football team and committee was set up, to be based at the Village Hall Playing Fields. Currently there are two teams who play in different divisions of the North Glos League, so there is a game at the Playing Fields each Saturday during the season. Practice takes place on the Playing Fields on Thursday evenings during summer and at Monmouth floodlit on Wednesday evenings during winter. Males over the age of 16 are eligible to play in the League, so if you are interested, contact Mark Tabberer (860316) or Gary Ginger (860487). Junior under 15s, part of the Herefordshire League, train on Friday evenings on the Playing Fields and games are played on Sundays.

Gardening Club

English Bicknor and District Gardening Club is a group of definitely amateur gardeners who meet on the last Tuesday of each month except August and December. A varied programme of speakers is organised in the Village Hall during Autumn through to Spring and in the Summer members visit local gardens.

The programme secretary is Pat Drinkall (861025) and the Club extends a warm welcome to all.

History Group

English Bicknor Local History Group meets bi-monthly on the second Thursday of the month in English Bicknor Village Hall at 7.30pm to research and share knowledge about matters of local history.
If you are interested in joining, please contact the Chair, Claire Scales (836191 or info@rocklodge.co.uk )

Lunch Club

A Lunch Club for the elderly or disabled is run by a team of Lydcare volunteers every other Tuesday for most of the year. The lunches are served in English Bicknor Village Hall where people can enjoy a social gathering, usually followed by a talk. The cost is currently £4.00 and transport, subsidised at £2.00, can be arranged. Chiropody is also available.
If you would like to attend or help with serving at the Lunch Club, please ring Lydcare (860143) or Gill Carne (860200).

Parish Council

English Bicknor Parish Council is made up of 7 Councillors and meets bimonthly in the Village Hall. The names of current councillors and all agendas are published on the notice boards. Meetings are open to parishioners, who are able to speak at the public forum during the first 10 minutes of each meeting. A Parish Assembly is held annually, when a summary is given of the activities of the Council during the year. Parishioners are invited to this meeting and can raise any matters relating to the Parish.

Skittles

A team of 10 skittlers play every Friday in the Forest of Dean Men's League, either at home in the Skittle Alley adjacent to the Club, or away. There is a Ladies' League if 10 interested ladies can be found. The Skittle Alley is available for clubs or groups to use at other times. Mark Tabberer (860316) is the person to contact if you are interested in skittles.

Tea at Three

T@3 is a monthly church outreach event held in the Village Hall on the first Sunday of each month from October to June (excluding January). Everyone is welcome - the current age range is between 5 and 90+ years. No booking is required - just turn up at 3pm. Afternoon tea is followed by home-spun entertainment often provided by the children, and the afternoon ends with a short Thought for the Day and a prayer. This is a free event (though donations are gratefully received).
